Kyle & Nicole's Puerto Vallarta Honeymoon

Sayulita - Day 9

We woke up to another beautiful morning after an incredible storm. We decided to go to Sayulita for a few days. But before we left, we wanted to get some Frappes and some food. At the mini super (small convenience stores are referred to as "mini supers" as in small super market), kitty corner to Mark's Bar & Grill, we bought some fresh made Tortas for 15 pesos each. I don't know what was in those sandwichy things, but damn they were good. We packed up all of our belongings, including the accursed suitcase, and walked up to the place where the bus dropped us off a few days earlier. It was not long before the bus to Sayulita came by.

To head to the northern ocean coast, we actually had to go over a tropical mountain pass, before dropping to the ocean on the other side. It was a pretty, jungle scene ride. Once we arrived in Sayulita, we just started walking down the street to the ocean. We ended up, naturally, at a Palapa bar, and the guy who was working at the surfboard rental shop offered up his bachelor pad for $35 bucks. His name was David, and he looks small enough to be a horse jockey.

Not wanting to traipse around looking for a place, we rented it from him. It was really just a big studio on stilts, covered in surfing posters. We dropped off our things then went exploring. We were told that Sayulita was in a different time zone than Vallarta, but that changed in June of 2010, according to the locals. Didn't matter, we still didn't know what time it was.

As we explored around town, we found some cutesy muertos trinkets, bought some tequila, then eased back to the beach for a beer. We ended up sitting next to a couple from Portland, George & Allissa. George, as it turns out, works at the US Outdoor store and is friends with some of my friends. After bullshitting, and getting a little tipsy, we walked up to Cafe de Sayulita for some food. I had an incredible Chile Relleno, Nicole had some enchiladas. After that, we went to yet another bar, then we were told there was a some fire dancing party in the town plaza. We went and checked that out and met yet another dude from Portland sporting a Magic Garden shirt.
